On the delightful occasion of InfoTechs reaching a remarkable position in the tech industry in a short span of two years, I’d like to take this opportunity to share how InfoTechs came into existence.
Let’s start from the beginning. I began my professional career as a Digital Marketing Specialist in 2012 as a freelancer, actively involved in SEO, web development, and brand marketing. As my work started attracting more and more clients, I formed a small team of 3-4 digital marketing experts so that I could divide the workload efficiently and provide complete Internet Marketing service to my clients. With the growing needs of my existing clients and a vision to expand the digital landscape, I formed my digital marketing agency, Splendour Group, in 2014. The reason why I am giving a special mention to my digital marketing agency is because it has a huge role to play in the success of InfoTechs Nepal.
Now, here comes the part where I shed light on why I was compelled to launch my laptop store. As I mentioned before, my team and I work in digital marketing, where all the work is done via laptop or desktop. We primarily used laptops because of its portability and ease of use. Back in 2012, when I was first starting out, it wasn’t easy to find a budget laptop with good features and specifications in the Nepali market. There wasn’t a sufficient brand and range of laptops to choose from, the genuinity of the store selling the laptops was a big question mark, and the ones that provided decent features came at a steep price. This was the first issue I had faced, but there is more to come.
Taking a huge portion out of my savings, I bought a relatively expensive laptop that did pack the features I required for my work from a reputable laptop store, but within a few months of purchasing my laptop, it started facing issues. Since it was less than a year from when I purchased my laptop, I went to the store to claim my warranty and get my laptop fixed. The warranty didn’t cover any of the major problems that my laptop faced, and fixing my laptop did make a dent in my wallet. On top of that, they took close to 15 days to fix my laptop, and because of this, my work was hampered. This was the second issue I faced that although a store with such a name in the market, the warranty they provided when buying a laptop was just for the namesake, and their after-sales service was a disaster.
Not just me; my team members were also facing the same issues which came to the forefront during the COVID time. Every month, around 3-4 of my teammates were facing problems with their laptops- the issues were one had a dated laptop that would crash ever so often, and the laptop would freeze during heavy tasks. Also, buying a new laptop or sending the laptop for servicing during the lockdown times was next to impossible.
Since most people in my team were facing the same issue with our laptops, which in turn was hampering our quality of work and lowering our productivity, I had had enough of the issues, so I decided to venture into the tech market myself and actively work to transform the way the industry was operating.
My pain points were the lack of a diverse range of laptops, the latest releases weren’t available in the market, unsatisfactory after-sales service, and lack of customer care. My focus was to start a laptop store that provides laptops from the best brands in the world, affordable pricing, the latest models, exceptional after-sales service, and prompt customer care. With that aim in mind, I launched InfoTechs Nepal on December 21, 2020.
With the help of my Splendour family and my branding experience, we marketed InfoTechs Nepal to rank it in the third spot on the search engine result page, which helped us make a name for ourselves and brought sales. However, I knew that ranking high on the search result page isn’t enough for people to associate InfoTechs Nepal as a trusted laptop store as people are skeptical of ecommerce businesses. To win the trust of my target audience, I launched “Free” servicing camping and reached out to IT colleges and IT agencies. As the campaign picked up momentum, on a daily basis, about 20 laptop servicing was done. This campaign helped us gain the trust of people, our store gained exposure, and we started selling more and more laptops.
Today, we sell laptops from the best brands, like Apple, Dell, Acer, and more. We offer a one-year warranty covering almost every major laptop repair. It’s my vision to provide the best laptops at a best price so that none of my customers feel that they can’t afford one. In fact, if you compare the prices of our laptops to any other leading laptop stores, you’ll see we provide laptops at a discounted rate.
You can find affordable yet feature-packed laptops that start from just Rs. 35,000 to premium laptops that can handle heavy tasks with ease. I can proudly say that our after-sales service is extraordinary because it is our motto to provide immediate service where we fix your laptop within 24 hours. The best part is that we source the latest release laptops within weeks of their launch in the international market. The MacBook Air M2 15-inch, released in the international market on June 13, 2023, was made available in our store within the first week of July.
Our value-for-money products, after-sales services, customer care, and high ranking in the search engine resulted in steady sales flow and brand recognition in just 2 years. However, my personal goal was to make 200 units of sales per month within the first 3 months of 2023. My team and I worked tirelessly to optimize Info’s website and social media pages so that it could reach out to more and more people, sourced out all the in-demand laptop models and policed our customer care. With all that hard work and effort, I did reach my goal of selling an average of 200 laptops in June, and that sales number has continued since then.
While there were challenges for a new business to make its name in a saturated market with many big players, the quality InfoTechs Nepal provides made its way to the people’s hearts and allowed us to serve them. Though I ventured into the gadget market because of my frustrations with the under-par service, my passion and commitment to providing my customers with the best laptop purchasing experience in Nepal fuels my relentless drive.
